It's the home of country music and the historic Grand Ole Opry, as well as the capital and second largest city in Tennessee - Nashville.
Nashville is more than just a state capital or a musical mecca. There is history, attraction, excitement, and culture all wrapped together in this great city of the south. It's got theater, ballet, opera, and art museums as well as historical sites, fantastic restaurants, and amazing shopping locations.
Civil War history is still very much a part of the city's ambiance, with antebellum and post-war architecture and monuments dotting the area. Near the city are the sites of the Battle of Nashville, the Battle of Franklin, and the Battle of Stones River. There is also a reconstruction of the old stockade that served as one of the foundations for the city by the Cumberland River.
Nashville is also the home of a full-scale replica of The Parthenon that is located in Athens, Greece. Because of that fact, as well as because of all the institutes of higher learning, one of the city's nicknames is "Athens of the South."
Entertainment, shopping, and dining are not lacking in this city capital. The Nashville Zoo, a relative newcomer to the city, doesn't detract from its rich culture, but enhances the city's worldliness. The Opry Mills shopping center rests on the land where once stood Opryland USA - an amusement park dedicated to country music. The touch of the music genre is not lost, however, as the Country Music Hall of Fame still lies within the city, as do several honky-tonk establishments that have added to the flavor of the city, particularly the well-known Tootsie's Orchid Lounge.
For a location filled with good times, plenty of history, and such a variety of venues that there is something for everyone, visit Music City, USA -- Nashville, Tennessee!
